Rock & Roll Road Trip with Sammy Hagar Featuring Guns N’ Roses’ Bassist Duff McKagan Sharing Emotional Moments on Tour

December 30, 2021 By the80sruled Leave a Comment

I think you’re gonna like this short little video from AXS TV’s Rock & Roll Road Trip with Sammy Hagar. In this clip, Guns N’ Roses’ bassist Duff McKagan tells Sammy about one of the most emotional moments he’s had out on tour.

What I love about this video is both Duff and Sammy talk about how they always look out in the crowd and see people and wonder, “What’s that guy or girl’s story?” Duff tells a story about a dad and his daughter who he keeps seeing on the front row at their concerts, and he sees them on the streets in New Orleans and asks them why they’ve been at every show. It was an emotional moment to hear the dad’s answer.

Rush – ‘Limelight’ Music Video from 1981

December 30, 2021 By the80sruled Leave a Comment

In 1981, Canadian rockers Rush released one of the best rock albums of the last 40 years with Moving Pictures. The entire album is awesome, and two of our favorite Rush songs were on this album. Tom Sawyer, which is probably Rush’s most popular song, and Limelight, the first single released from the album. Limelight was Rush’s first top five rock single in the US when it peaked at number four on the Mainstream Rock charts in 1981. It was also their first top 20 hit on the Canadian charts, peaking at number 18.

Enjoy this look back at Rush’s music video for Limelight as well as the music videos for Tom Sawyer and Red Barchetta, one of our all time favorite Rush songs!

Judge Smails’ Winter Rules in Golf Scene from Caddyshack

December 30, 2021 By the80sruled Leave a Comment

There are so many things going on in this one scene from the golf course with Judge Smails in Caddyshack. The main scene itself is hilarious with Judge Smails continuously kicking his ball out of the rough until Danny suggests, “Why don’t you improve your lie a little sir,” and Smails comments, “Yes, yes, winter rules.”

What’s even funnier is in the background the entire time, Smails’ grandson Spalding is cussing and hacking up the course. Finally, there’s Rodney Dangerfield’s character, Al Czervik, who tees it up and yells “Fore” right as his ball hits Judge Smails square in the cojones, and comments, “I should’ve yelled two!”.

Amadeus was released to theaters in September of 1984 and is widely considered one of the greatest films of all time. The movie won eight Academy Awards, including the Academy Award for Best Picture. The movie follows a fictional rivalry between Mozart and Italian composer Antonio Salieri at the court of Emperor Joseph II. The music from the movie is incredible, and this tribute video for the movie from HD Film Tributes on YouTube set to the music of Mozart’s Rondo Alla Turca is perfect.

Survivor – ‘Burning Heart’ Music Video from the Rocky IV Soundtrack from 1985

December 30, 2021 By the80sruled Leave a Comment

Rocky Balboa was Survivor’s best friend! In the ’80s, they scored the two biggest hits of their career with Eye of the Tiger and Burning Heart. Eye of the Tiger from the Rocky III soundtrack was their first and only number one hit on the Hot 100 charts in 1982, and Burning Heart from the 1985 Rocky IV soundtrack peaked at number two on the Hot 100 charts. Both are great songs, and the music video for Burning Heart is basically a four-minute mini-movie featuring the best parts of Rocky IV!

Enjoy this look back at the music video for Survivor’s Burning Heart from the 1985 movie soundtrack for Rocky IV, and because it’s such a great song, enjoy Eye of the Tiger as well!

Don’t Let It End was the second single released from Styx’s 1983 Kilroy Was Here album. According to lead singer Dennis DeYoung, Don’t Let It End was supposed to have been the first single released from the album, but the record label stepped in and chose Mr. Roboto instead. Mr. Roboto peaked at number three on the Hot 100 charts, and Don’t let It End peaked at number six on the Hot 10 charts. It was their last top ten single of the ’80s on the Hot 100 charts. They scored one more top ten on the Hot 100 charts in 1990 when Show Me The Way peaked at number three.

Judas Priest – ‘Breaking The Law’ Then and Now (1980 and 2021)

December 29, 2021 By the80sruled Leave a Comment

In 1980, Judas Priest released their iconic British Steel album, and the album produced two of Priest’s most popular songs with Living After Midnight and Breaking The Law. Both songs peaked at number 12 on the UK charts, and have since become staples at Judas Priest’s live shows. It is incomprehensible that they are not in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame yet. They were nominated for the class of 2020, but were not elected. If ever there was a band that deserved to be in the ROCK n’ Roll Hall of Fame, it’s Judas Priest. They’ve been rocking the stage for over 40 years and still sound as good as ever as evidenced in the video below from 2021.

Caddyshack was released to theaters in the summer of 1980 and is one of our favorite comedies of all time. There are so many great characters in the film, and two of the best are Rodney Dangerfield as Al Czervik and Ted Knight as Judge Elihu Smails.

Two of our favorite scenes from the movie are when Judge Smails is picking out a hat in the pro shop when Al walks in and comments, “Oh, this is the worst-looking hat I ever saw. What, when you buy a hat like this I bet you get a free bowl of soup, huh? Oh, it looks good on you though”, and shortly thereafter, the scene where Al walks up on Smails about to tee off and bets Smails 100 bucks he’ll slice it into the woods. Smails answers Al with “Gambling is illegal at Bushwood sir, and I never slice!”

Rocky III was released in 1982, and it’s our favorite of all the Rocky films. Like all of the Rocky movies, Rocky III takes us through so many emotions. There’s Rocky’s hilarious fight with Thunderlips, aka Hulk Hogan. There’s Rocky’s heartbreak over the loss of Mick. There’s his doubt and loss of confidence after losing to Clubber Lang the first time. There’s Rocky’s reluctance to really go for it during his training with Apollo until Adrian steps in and sets him straight on the beach. Then, there’s the excitement as he transforms his boxing style with Apollo, and lastly, there’s the final fight with Clubber Lang where he finally knocks him out!

The Lost Boys was released to theaters on July 31, 1987. It made a respectable $32.2 million at the box office on a budget of $8.5 million. However, it has since become a cult favorite amongst ’80s movie fans as well as vampire movie fans alike. Sadly, a few cast members have already passed away way too soon like Corey Haim, who played Sam in the movie, struggled with drug addiction for most of his adult life, and passed away from pneumonia at the young age of 38 in 2010, and Brooke McCarter, who played Paul in the movie who died at the age of 52 from a genetic liver disorder in 2015.

The Six Million Dollar Man Steve Austin Rescues the Bionic Woman Jaime Sommers in 1987’s ‘The Return of the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman’

In 1987, The Return of the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman was released as a made-for-television movie. It featured the return of Lee Majors as Steve Austin, the Six Million Dollar Man, and Lindsay Wagner as Jaime Sommers, the Bionic Woman. In this scene from the movie, Sommers chooses not to use her powers in order to save some blind children as she’s being kidnapped, but unbeknownst to the kidnappers, Steve Austin witnesses the kidnapping and tracks them down in true Six Million Dollar man style.
