In 1981, Jefferson Starship released their sixth studio album called Modern Times. The album featured the return of Grace Slick to the band after a three year absence. Slick provided background vocals on a few songs as well as lead vocals on the single Stranger, a duet with lead singer Mickey Thomas.

Four singles were released from the album, but only one made it into the top 40 on the Hot 100 charts. Find Your Way Back peaked at number 29 on the Hot 100 charts, but was a top five hit on the Mainstream Rock charts when it peaked at number three in 1981. The aforementioned Stranger was also a minor hit on the Rock charts peaking at number 17.
