Sixteen Candles is one of the most memorable movies of the ’80s and was written by John Hughes, who also made his directorial debut with the film. During the ’80s, Hughes went on to write and direct The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, She’s Having a Baby, and Uncle Buck.

Sixteen Candles was Molly Ringwald’s breakout role when she played Samantha Baker, a girl whose 16th birthday is forgotten by her family. Anthony Michael Hall’s stardom also skyrocketed after Sixteen Candles, although he was a recognizable face having appeared as Rusty Griswold in National Lampoon’s Vacation, which was released a year before Sixteen Candles in 1983.

Enjoy this look back at the cast of Sixteen Candles then in 1984 and now in 2023!
