Never Tear Us Apart was the fourth single released from INXS’s 1987 Kick album, which is considered one of the greatest albums released during the ’80s. The first four singles released from Kick were top ten hits on the Hot 100 charts with the first single Need You Tonight going to number one. Never Tear Us Apart peaked at number seven on the Hot 100 charts and number five on the Mainstream Rock charts.

On 27 November 1997, lead singer Michael Hutchence’s funeral was held at St Andrew’s Cathedral, Sydney. His casket was carried out of the cathedral by members of INXS and by his younger brother, Rhett; Never Tear Us Apart was played in the background.
