Chevy Chase made so many hilarious movies in the ’80s. National Lampoon’s Vacation, European Vacation, and Christmas Vacation were just a few, but one of our favorite movies from Chase was 1985’s Fletch. In this memorable scene from the movie, Fletch visits the airport disguised as an airplane mechanic named Gordon Liddy in order to check out Alan Stanwyk’s plane. A Salute to a Bygone Era of Awesomeness – The Bar Fight Scene in ‘Any Which Way You Can’

November 15, 2021 By the80sruled Leave a Comment

I owe the title of this post to Himmel on YouTube. His comment on this post was, “Eastwood and Smith are bookends to a bygone ear of awesomeness.” We could not agree more. They just don’t make movies or men like they used to. Clint Eastwood and William Smith were two of the toughest guys in Hollywood back in the late ’70s and early ’80s. In this scene from Any Which Way You Can, Philo Beddoe (Clint Eastwood) and Jack Wilson (William Smith) meet in a bar and get into a fight… just not with each other. At the time, this was one of the longest two-man fight scenes on screen.

Enjoy this look back at the bar fight scene from Any Which Way You Can from 1980 and RIP to William Smith who passed away in July 2021.

Van Halen – ‘Fools’ Live at the Piper Club in Rome, Italy in 1980

November 13, 2021 By the80sruled Leave a Comment

In 1980, Van Halen played live at The Piper Club in Rome, Italy on May 21, 1980. This video of Fools was recorded and aired live on the sixth episode of the TV show Superstar, which aired on September 4, 1980. They also played You Really Got Me as well. It’s pretty apparent that Dave is lip-synching, which was done quite often back then for live performances on TV. No matter though, because that gave Dave more time for all of us trademark theatrics!

Here’s an interesting tidbit about this show:

“In a subsequent video Dave jumps and hits his nose on a low-hanging mirror ball over the stage. A three foot ball of light was lowered over the stage on the darkened television studio. DLR, unaware of this, made one of his famous leaps, crashing into the light fixture resulting in his nose being broken in two places multiple contusion and a possible concussion. This had them cancel the next two shows until five days later on 5/26 at Pinkpop where Dave’s nose is taped up.”
