In 1983, Metallica released their debut album ‘Kill ‘Em All’, and the first single released was ‘Whiplash’! The video below is from a concert at The Metro in Chicago, IL on August 12, 1983. It’s so cool to see legendary bands in their infancy, and this clip of Metallica is awesome!

A few notable facts about ‘Whiplash’:

  • Motorhead covered ‘Whiplash’ for the Metallica tribute album Metallic Attack: The Ultimate Tribute and won their first Grammy for Best Metal Performance in 2005.
  • According to guitarist Kirk Hammett, ‘Whiplash’ was Kurt Cobain’s favorite Metallica song.
  • And, our favorite fact about this song: ‘Whiplash’ can be heard, during a fight scene, in the 2012 comedy film That’s My Boy – starring Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg.
