Family Ties is one of the most beloved sitcoms in TV history. It ran from 1982 until 1989 and reflected the move in the US from the cultural liberalism of the ’60s and ’70s to the conservatism of the ’80s. This change was especially apparent in the relationship between young Republican Alex P. Keaton, played by Michael J. Fox, and his ex-hippie parents, Steven and Elyse Keaton, played by Michael Gross and Meredith Baxter-Birney.
