Platoon was released in 1986. The film was based on director Oliver Stone’s experience during the Vietnam War, and it follows a U.S. Army volunteer (Charlie Sheen) serving in Vietnam while his Platoon Sergeant and his Squad Leader (Tom Berenger and Willem Dafoe) argue over the morality in the platoon and the conduct of the war.
