The late, great George Jones said this about his 1980 number one song ‘He Stopped Loving Her Today’, “Nobody will buy that morbid son of a bitch”. That’s what Jones told his producer Billy Sherrill as he left the studio. Luckily for Jones, fans loved it and at the time it became his first number one song in six years!
