Cobra was a 1986 movie that starred Sylvester Stallone as Lieutenant Marion “Cobra” Cobretti. Stallone wrote the screenplay for the movie, which was loosely based on the novel Fair Game by Paula Gosling, from ideas he originally conceived during pre-production for Beverly Hills Cop, in which he was originally cast as Detective Axel Foley.
Stallone wanted to make Beverly Hills Cop less comedic and more action-oriented, but the studio rejected his ideas because they were way too expensive. Stallone left the project and Eddie Murphy was brought in to play the lead role, which was probably a good move for both Stallone and Murphy!
