Back to School featuring Rodney Dangerfield – “It Was a Really Big Check” Scene

Back to School was released to theaters in 1986 and starred Rodney Dangerfield as a wealthy but uneducated father who goes to college to show solidarity with his discouraged son and ends up learning that he can’t buy happiness or an education.

It’s a hilarious movie with so many great scenes. In this scene, Thornton Melon, played by Dangerfield is being honored by Dean Martin (Ned Beatty) at the ground-breaking of the new Melon School of Business Administration, to which Dr. Phillip Barbay (Paxton Whitehead) does not approve, but Dean Martin sets him straight by saying, It was a really big check!

Enjoy a look back at the “really big check” scene as well as our favorite scene from the movie featuring Sam Kinison as Professor Terguson in 1986’s Back To School!
